There are certain moments in guitar history that feel like a threshold — where one era is fading, another is beginning, and the sound carries both at once. First Dawn is named for that kind of moment: the last glow of the late ’60s giving way to something fuller, heavier, and more expressive. It is a set shaped by that transition point — vintage in spirit, but with the wider voice and stronger musical push that hinted at what was coming next.

The First Dawn Strat Pickup Set is a late-’60s inspired, hand-wound set built around a woody, vocal neck pickup voicing. Those vocal qualities come through especially clearly from the 8th to the 15th fret, where the notes take on a rich, singing quality with full lower mids and none of the shrill “ping” that can make brighter vintage Strat pickups feel brittle or spiky. It also delivers the unmistakable quack in positions 2 and 4, but with the kind of definition and body that makes the in-between sounds genuinely usable rather than thin.

The neck pickup feels immediate and alive under the fingers, with thick, vocal mids, a soft-edged top end, and a tight, punchy low end that still thumps when you lean into it. There is plenty of treble present, but never in a way that turns harsh. With gain, it stays touch-responsive and dynamic — pick lightly and it remains almost clean, dig in and the full voice of the pickup opens up with a rich, expressive breakup.

The middle pickup is voiced for clarity and balance, keeping chords open and articulate with strong note separation, especially into edge-of-breakup and overdriven tones. It has the kind of response that suits classic rock rhythm work perfectly, holding onto detail without sounding stiff or overly polished.

The bridge pickup is wound slightly hotter than the neck and middle, which helps to balance output in the naturally quieter bridge position. It cuts through the mix cleanly for lead work, while still providing a solid foundation for brighter chord playing. The result is a bridge tone with presence and bite, but enough body to remain full and balanced.

Built with Alnico 5 magnets for an immediate, lively attack, and wound with 42 AWG Plain Enamel wire. First Dawn captures the character of those late-’60s Strat tones heard on so many era-defining recordings — but with the consistency, balance, and usability modern players expect.

  • Voice: late-’60s inspired • slightly scooped • woody neck leads • classic quack in positions 2 and 4 • and a well balanced bridge pickup that still cuts through.

  • Feel: thick mids • rounded treble • tight lows • touch sensitive breakup

  • Amp and speaker pairing: For the most natural match, pair this set with Plexi-style circuits and Greenbacks, where its voice feels especially at home. They also work exceptionally well through Blackface, Silverface, and Tweed-style amps, retaining clarity, body, and expressive response.
